Cellvation is an R&D project financed by Acquedotto Pugliese to test cellulose extraction from municipal civil wastewater at a wastewater treatment plant.
The project involves the installation of a pilot plant called "Cellvation" for the recovery of cellulose, thorough a mechanical process which is alternative to primary sedimentation.
Cellulose removal is expected to decrease the pollutant load, consequently leading to an increase in the plant capacity as well as the reduction of energy consumption and sludge production.
This objectives meet the circular economy principles of producing secondary raw materials within WWTPs.
