The event “Water for Life” is focused on the relationship between Sustainable Development and an efficient and aware use of water with specific reference on how AQP has been ensuring sustainable development in the Apulia Region and Southern Italy for over a century.
During the event the topics are discussed on several levels, of governance, managerial and scientific along with the themes of sustainability and the necessary widespread and transversal commitment to face the ongoing climate crisis.
Topics include:
- Utilization and reuse of purified wastewater;
- Good management of water resources including through the use of AI and emerging technologies;
- Water as an energy source:
- Biogas production;
- H2 production from purified water.
The event is also an occasion for the assignment of the Second Water for Life Award promoted by Acquedotto Pugliese S.p.A.. The award has the objective of enhancing and boosting initiatives of Countries, Personalities, Institutions and Associations, which contribute to spreading the culture of sustainable development, with particular reference to the protection and enhancement of water.
The first edition of the prize was awarded in 2022 to Icelandic writer and documentary film director Andri Snær Magnasson at Dubai Expo2020.
The new edition is awarded by an international jury consisting of the Union for the Mediterranean, UNIDO ITPO Italy, UNIDROIT, the Italian agency for Cooperation. The acknowledgment is assigned for the commitment towards an aware and responsible use of the water resource.
The event is personally attended by representatives of AQP team, the Apulia Region, the Embassy of Italy to the United Nations, Italian Agency for Cooperation, UNIDO and international institutes, among others. "Water for life" is in collaboration with the Union for the Mediterranean (UFM), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO -ITPO), the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies-Bari Instiute (CIHEAM), The Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED) and the Polytechnic of Bari (POLIBA).
