The international AQUA project, co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg IPA ADRION program, involves utilities and public entities from countries bordering the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. The main objective is to enhance the resilience of local water systems in response to climate change, water scarcity, water quality degradation, and the devastating impacts of flooding, through the development of integrated strategies and innovative technological solutions.
AQUA promotes the sharing of best practices and the creation of scalable solutions capable of efficiently and sustainably addressing common challenges faced by the partner countries.
Acquedotto Pugliese, as the lead partner in the project, is responsible for defining the methodological objectives and carrying out critical analyses related to the management of water resources, with particular attention to the availability and quality of water. Among the planned actions, a pilot project has been designed in Italy, aimed at addressing water scarcity and potable water needs. This approach utilizes climate indicators and seasonal projection models to forecast and optimize future demand. The results will contribute to the development of transnational action plans and help define a shared strategy for the optimal management of water resources in the Adriatic and Ionian regions.
